Japanese Wisteria Garden Kutani Vase
This porcelain 8″ Japanese Wisteria Garden Kutani Vase has beautiful lavender wisteria flowers on top of a deep purple/blue glaze. Kutani ware is said to have originated in what is now Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture in the latter half of the seventeenth century. The pottery is known for its elaborate figurative paintings of landscapes, flowers and birds. In the Meiji period (1868–1912), Kutani Shoza (1816–1883) developed his own style, which became popular for its painting of “Saishiki-kinrande”
