Delicately made with vibrant colors, traditional Hakata dolls are made of clay and un-glazed. They were originally created in the 17th -century as gifts and offerings to Buddhist temples. After WWII they became popular as souvenirs for American servicemen and have now become a cherished part of traditional Japanese craft culture.
